Flying Task
A fun flying task will be held over the Gila Regional Fly-in at Reserve Airport (T16), this Labor Day weekend. This will be the 4th time we have conducted this task. There is no fee for this activity. No need to register for this activity either, just add your name, passengers, airports overflown on the form that will be under the shade structure at the Reserve Airport. Any questions, contact jeff_trike@nmpilots.org The details are as follows:
Contest starts Friday morning and ends Saturday at dinner time.
For each of the Gila Area Airstrips you overfly (Reserve, Jewett Mesa, Negrito, Rainy Mesa, Beaverhead, MeOwn, Sacaton, Glenwood, Double Circle) you get one entry to a raffle.
Hint, grab a few on your flight into Reserve on Friday morning.
Overflight is all that is needed. Landing is not required.
Task completion is based the honor code, no photo or GPS verification needed. If you can't trust a pilot, who can you trust.
Any passengers (including dogs) on the flight can separately enter the raffle.
Winners will be chosen at random. The more airstrips you overfly, the better your odds. Prize is your choice of an item from the NMPA apparel collection.
2023 Winners below, Brandon Fryar (represented by his plane), Elizabeth Hunke (left), Ziva the dog (held by owner Marcia Gamino).
Glenwood Catwalk Hike
The "Catwalk" is a beautiful cool hike on an metal platform mounted on the rock walls above Whitewater Creek. We will carpool from the Reserve Airport Friday afternoon, sometime after lunch, (approx. 1pm) and drive to the trail head. There is a charge of $5 per vehicle that the riders will pay (drivers get a pass). We will hike up for an hour or two, then return. There are some nice swimming holes along the creek so dress appropriately and bring a towel and a snack.
Click here for a link to the US Forest Service webpage describing the Catwalk.
We will do the hike on Friday so we won't conflict with activities on Saturday, but feel free to organize a second trip earlier on Saturday if you want to get a second dose of the Catwalk.
We will need to organize our own ground transportation, so if you can help please send me an email: jeff_trike@nmpilots.org
